Truck & Event FAQs

Everything you need to know about bringing the Merry to your event.

Travel & Logistics

How far will the truck travel?

Our large truck (soft serve and scoops) travels up to 50km from the shop.

Our vintage scoop truck travels up to 35km because it does not drive on 400-series highways.

Note: Travel fees may apply for locations further than 25km from our shop.

Will the trucks come to Quebec?

Yes! We can come to private venues in Quebec for catered events.

Are the trucks insured and licensed?

Yes, our trucks are fully inspected, certified, and licensed by the City and Ottawa Public Health. Permits are displayed in the trucks.

How late will the trucks stay?

Trucks like to be tucked in by 10:00pm. For events further away, we generally have a 9:00pm cutoff. Contact events@themerrydairy.com for specific timing.

Weather & Rain Plans

What if the weather is bad?

We’ll come out in light rain, but stay home for thunderstorms, tornado watches, and poor air quality. We’ll check in with you a day before to discuss next steps.

Do you book rain dates?

We don’t book rain dates in advance. Instead, if weather is an issue, we will work with you that day to discuss rain plans or rescheduling.

Event Types & Sales

What is the difference between Catered and Open Sales?

Catered: The host provides ice cream; we track servings and invoice the organizer.

Open Sales: Guests pay for their own orders (Cash, Credit, Debit, and Gift Cards accepted).

Can we do Open Sales at our event?

Yes! These events require a minimum sales guarantee. If sales fall below that amount, we invoice for the balance.

Dietary & Allergies

What about allergies?

We are peanut-, tree nut-, and sesame-free. Many of our flavours are gluten-free. Let us know about specific needs so we can customize our offering.

Is the ice cream Kosher or Halal?

Our classic ice cream menu is certified OVH kosher. We are currently working to be certified halal.
